Akers is ready to roll

RedWaveReport.com continues its signing day coverage with the announcement that Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty Union High School defensive end Matt Akers has faxed in his commitment to Fresno State. He did it les than 10 minutes ago and says there was never a doubt in his mind he wanted to be a Bulldog.

"I just faxed it in five minutes ago," Akers said. "I am glad to be a dog."

Akers said it was a slam-dunk to end up at Fresno State.

"I knew as soon as I committed I was going to be at Fresno State," Akers said. "I never second guessed it. I am ready to get up there and starting working out."

Akers is 6-foot-3, 245 pounds and runs a 4.7-second 40-yard dash. He is also very strong in the weight room with a bench around 400 pounds. Akers had other offers from Colorado State, San Diego State, Utah and Nevada.

Liberty Union finished the season 8-4, losing to Fresno Edison in the CIF playoffs, 13-9. Akers finished the regular season with 75 tackles, leading his conference with 15 sacks.
