Fan Smack: Rants from a Rebel
Being as there was no Clemson game this past Saturday, I got an early start on Region V this week! (ha…great day them Noles were good! Me an Dabo going on a smoke free campaign b/c Winston's are lethal.)
Region V could be decided this Friday night but don't count on it. More on that later. Last week the showdown of Leaphardt vs Sawyer fizzled shortly after Swansea took their opening drive for a score. The Rebs ran off six straight scoring drives to go up 29-7 early in the 3rd qtr and there was never a doubt after that (includes ST's 1st safety of the season). Rebels continue to look better and better each week and are starting to remind me of the 05 team. Not a lot of big blowouts, but solid wins and positive progression with each game and getting a little swagger. Dual threat qbs with cornrows...it's all starting to add up! That's just my opinion, but heck, there is a reason i have to pay to get into the games!
The Cars drove over the Bearcats but the game was not without controversy. Reading The State paper, i gathered there was a questionable call that is being sent to the HSL office for Bruce Hulion's review. Hold on (just got hiccups from laughing so hard). Good luck with that! If there was nothing done about the catastrophe of officiating in the 3A lowerstate title game last season (3 touchdowns called back by the same official against ST) you can forget about it.
Airport continued their 7 game skid, after winning the opener, by falling to Gilbert in what was potentially the cellar dweller battle.
Rebels lead region in overall defense (not even close in region points allowed either). Rebs also lead in region points scored. Gilbert leads in overall points scored. The Valley boys and Indians both score what they allow. Only Airport is allowing more than they score.
ST could earn their 25th region title in only their 53rd yr of football with a win over Gilbert plus a Midland Valley loss this week. But the Valley boys will be too much for the Eagles, setting up a R5 showdown to open November at LL Willis next week.
Trash your brackets, too many "what if's" this season in 3A lowstate.
Rebels slow down Gilberts scoring. Mustangs open the Cars up on the runway and Swansea rebounds against the Bearcats.
