Easley's Smith Committed to Southern Wesleyan

Easley High School's Abby Smith will sign a national letter-of-intent Wednesday to continue her volleyball career at Southern Wesleyan University. Smith will be one of five Green Wave athletes to participate in the ceremony.

Smith, a middle hitter, missed a third of her senior season because of back injury. She still finished the season with 125 kills, 35 blocks and 57 digs. She had 16 aces and a .324 hitting percentage. Smith was named most valuable offensive player for the team and was named to the Hillcrest Invitational all-tournament team. As a junior for the Lady Green Wave, Smith had 44 aces, 186 kills, 40 blocks and 159 digs. She was the team's most valuable player. She was also named best offensive player as a sophomore.

"Abby is a great player with an exceptional attitude," said Easley head coach Melissa Thomas. "She was one of my hardest-working players and I will miss her. I have always said she reminded me of myself at that age." Smith helped Easley reach the Class AAAA state playoffs three consecutive years. She recently received the Regional FCA Heart of a Champion Award for high-achieving student athletes who also demonstrate exceptional character and integrity.

She has also played three seasons for Carolina One Volleyball Club and one season with Club South Volleyball Club. Smith was named Team One Palmetto All-Region at the USAV regional qualifier in Charlotte. She had 85 kills during a three-day AAU tournament in Florida, and had a total of 270 kills during the club season.

In addition to athletics, Smith is an honor student at EHS and is president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She participates in many other clubs and honors programs, including Pickens County Junior Leadership. Smith plans to major in biology/pre-med and plans a career in genetics. She is the youngest daughter of Scott and Kelli Smith of Easley.
