Peak Lacrosse Shines in First Tournament

The PEAK LACROSSE program travelled to Greenville this past weekend for the South Carolina Shootout. It was the first competitive tournament for the 1st year program and the teams were impressive in their performance. For this tournament, the program combined the U15 and U19 team rosters to participate in the U19 bracket. Facing the challenge of playing much younger players in the older bracket, Coach Matt Williams and his staff devised a brilliant strategy to remain competitive. They accomplished that task, with the team fnishing 4th overall in the tournament and having three PEAK LACROSSE players make the High School All Star team for the tournament. Louis Rodriguez, Shawn Merritt, and Corbett Glick were all selected for the All-Star team.

Here's a coaches eval of the PEAK LACROSSE players and how they performed in the tournament.

Brandon McCullough Brandon is an exceptionally fast middie who had a great tournament. He ran wing on most faceoffs, was great on clears, and proved he has a great split dodge on offense.
Chandler Hawsey Chandler excelled in every position this weekend. He was a scorer on man up and even strength offense, as well as a great contributor on defense and man down.
Charlie King Charlie is a fast LSM who did great with ground balls all weekend. He was able to create several fast breaks and had a couple shots.
Drew Dewar We used several offensive sets over the weekend and Drew was able to work well in all of them. He moves well on crease and has shown great improvements in stick skills.
George King George played both attack and middie this weekend and was able to score from both spots. He had some great shots and created offense from anywhere on the field.
Griffin Harden Griffin is a solid defender who played close D nonstop all weekend. He was able to play pressure D and was smart off ball. He also fit well in the man down system.
Jack Sparrow Jack ran both offensive and defensive middie. He was able to match up on any player he faced on D as well as create offense both with dodges and off ball.
Jeremiah Davies Jeremiah is a great all around player. He was over 50% on faceoffs, scored fast break goals, created offense with dodges, and played great defensive middie.
John Jolley John started to find his stride the second day of the tournament. He is getting a better feel for both positioning and stickwork as he keeps playing.
Landon Louthian Landon found himself in many situations this weekend and was able to excel. He did well in different spots on offense in our different sets, as well as D middie.
Luis Rodriguez Luis played mostly close D along with some LSM and excelled at both. He made the all star game due to his quick ground balls, accurate stick checks, and his speed.
Matt Balance Matt is another all around good player. He scores on both even strength and man up, as well as plays man down mid, and plays great middie defense.
Paxton Brown Paxton may have the best stick skills of our close D. He always gets ground balls on first scoop and is able to clear the ball quickly. His on ball defense is also a strength.
Rox Pollard Rox is another player who showed great improvement by the second day. He was able to run a couple dodges and created offense, all while being thrust into different sets.
Sam Duffie Sam can excel anywhere on the field. He creates offense on man up and even strength. He is able to clear the ball, run man down, and take face offs.
Shaw Wilgis Shaw stepped into the net on the second day this weekend. After a shaky start he played amazing. He has a great step and clears the ball very well.
Shawn Merritt Shawn played in the cage the first day and played well enough to get selected to the all star game. He has great reactions and is very comfortable with the ball.
Stuart Williams Stuart split time at close D and at LSM and did very well with it. He was able to get some key ground balls as well as work well with his one on one matchups.
T.A. Whittlock T.A. was able to see opportunities and dodged even when nobody else was able to create movement. He has great stick skills, especially on the crease
Nick Basile Nick is a creative attackman. Considering he is always outsized in his matchups, he was able to find creative ways to dodge and get open using his speed and stick skills.
