Carolina high school athletes, this combine is set to host some of the state's top
football players at Brookland-Cayce High School this weekend for a great day of talent
showcasing. Here's a look at what to expect on Saturday.
After working the Nike Football Training Camps for several years, we had an opportunity
to see the best in the busines put on great events. There is no doubt that those are
quality events for the players. The problem was, there were so many players wanting in
that it turned into an almost invitational and limited the number of players from our
great state that were able to attend. Last year, I decided that I wanted to bring that
same quality of evaluation and training to South Carolina and make it open exclusively to
Palmetto state players. The response has been overwhelming and we've had to work overtime
to put plans in place to make this event the best ever in our state.
With four hundred players registered, we will be able to evaluate and test some great
high school football players and prospects. There will be some of every type here...the
player who just wants a chance to measure himself against great talent; the player who has
the ability to play at the next level but just hasn't had the exposure; the players who
are sure to turn the heads of all-star coaches; and the total freaks that will not ony be
top ranked players in the state, but will be highly sought after by college recruiters
from around the country.
Today, we'll take a look at the defensive linemen who are scheduled to be at this
year's combine.
The defensive line chart in South Carolina is not nearly as deep as it has been in the
past. However, some of the state's top guys will be on hand for this event. Lewisville's
href="http://scvarsity.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=65008">Dion Foster
is a 6-4, 233lbs defensive end who entered Spring as a sleeper, but with an offer on the
table from Auburn already, he's now on the radar.He collected 67 tackles last season for
the Lions, including 11 for loss and 3 sacks.  Ridge Springs-Montetta's
href="http://scvarsity.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=62212">Justin Conaway
is a 6-5, 220lbs strong side end.  Last season the two-way star collected 132
tackles, an interception, 12 caused turnovers while on offense he tallied 223 yards
receiving and three touchdowns.  Sumter's
href="http://scvarsity.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=64925">James Fulwood is
a 6'4, 225lbs strongside end who's very athletic and has excellent speed for a big guy.
  Richland Northeast will send rising junior
href="http://scvarsity.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=59150">Chris Bonds,
who is one of the Class of 2009's top players. Bonds is a strongside end who is extremely
athletic and has been a starter since his freshman year for the Cavs. He has an offer from
South Carolina already.
The defensive tackle spot is loade with talent, as well. Greenville's
href="http://scvarsity.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=62935">Arterio Arnold,
a 6'2, 270lbs man, finished with 70 tackles last season for the Raiders and already has an
offer from Kentucky. Joining him will be jumbo athlete
href="http://scvarsity.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=59404">Sam Hammond, of
Union County High School. Hammond will be a four year starter and has an offer from
Clemson. He's strong against the run and very athletic. Columbia High School's Cliff
Stevenson is a 6'3, 260lbs monster in the middle. Several DI schools love him and
feel hes' the best kept secret in the Columbia area. Wade Hampton's Dexter Jenkins
is another beast in the middle. At 6'5, 230lbs, Jenkins was a dominating force in
the middle for his team in 2006.
