Recruiting Services
Know exactly what a recruiting service is. These are the
companies that claim they are going to help get you recruited by
walking and guiding you through the recruiting process by building
profiles, sending out your information, and showcasing your film
highlights among other things. And they do those things for a Fee -
that's FEE, not Free.
Do not confuse recruiting services with recruiting media companies.
Rivals.com, Scout.com, 247Sports are recruiting media services. They
are all about exposure through media and do not run "for pay" services
to "help you with recruiting." Rivals.com, which has the NO. 1
Recruiting data base in the world, with more highlights and film than
any other media outlet for college recruiting, has NEVER charged a
player for building a profile in that database. These companies, the
"media services" are the GOOD GUYS in this industry.
Don't let "recruiting services" take advantage of you
As a parent, you want to give your student-athlete every
chance you can at getting recruited. You'd do almost anything to make
good things happen for your child. These "recruiting services" and
their sharks, or representatives (sometimes called 'scouts') know that.
They will exploit that and take advantage of it by showcasing their
"success" stories and telling you how they are going to do the same for
your child. Before you know it, you've written this company a check or
given them your credit card number for a paymen of anywhere from 50 to
thousands of dollars. They will toss different "packages" at you at
different price levels and they will prey on your vanity. Do not be
fooled. There is nothing that this "recruiting service" can do for you
that you cannot do for yourself. I will tell you how to go about doing
it and it will cost you absolutely nothing because I do it for FREE.
Ever had a self-proclaimed recruiting service tell you they had "over a
1000" colleges in their data base? Big deal. The real question is how
many of those colleges have coaches that call this so-called
"recruiting service" on a regular basis soliciting information from
them. The answer is closer to zero than five. As a 29 year veteran of
the recruiting business, I can tell you that almost every one of my
friends who are active coaches/recruiters for an NCAA institution will
tell you that when they get unsolicited email from these "recruiting
services" they hit the delete button and add those addresses to the
spam list.
Bottom line, again, is that there is nothing that any of these
recruiting services do that YOU cannot do yourself. You just need to
know how. I'm going to teach you. For FREE.
