The Class of 2012 prospect list from South Carolina continues to draw BCS
level offers, with 21 of the top 25 already committed and all but two with
offers on the table already.
The recent commitment of Fox Creek standout athlete Marty Williams to Clemson
leaves just one top ten player uncommitted. Of the state's top ten prospects,
two are headed to South Carolina, five are headed to Clemson, one to Alabama,
and one to Auburn. Of the Top Twenty Five, Clemson has eight commitments and
South Carolina just three. What does that mean in terms of in-state recruiting
for the two schools? We'll take a look at that in our recruiting breakdown in my
Monday Morning Recruiting Report on SCVarsity.com this coming Monday.
For now, here's a glimpse of the mid-season Top Twenty-Five list and where
they are headed. Keep in mind, as these players are evaluated during the season,
slight changes could take place in the rankings. Position changes of note:
Casey Gladney, WR, Columbia High School began the season ranked at No. 14 but
has moved all the way up to No. 2 in the rankings. He already had the skill set
and abilities but the strong work ethic we heard about this past summer has
really shown in his play. No longer does he take plays off and runs his motor
full tilt on both sides of the football. He has also become a better down-field
blocker, something that was missing from his skill set in the past couple of
seasons.
Marty Williams, DB, Fox Creek High School began the spring rankings at No.
17, the preseason rankings at No. 7, and has moved up to No. 5 on the mid-season
rankings. I think he is clearly one of the top defensive athletes in the state
and Clemson got a huge pick up with this young man's commitment this week.
You'll notice two players on the top twenty-five list with no offers; Gaffney
QB Joey Copeland is a first year starter and was unranked coming into the
season; he has jumped all the way to No. 17 in the Mid-season rankings and I
look for him to get multiple offers very soon. Gaffney LB Savon Dukes does not
have any "confirmed" offers, despite being one of the top linebackers
in the state. I'm unsure whether it is an academic issue at this point or not,
but will address this is the Monday Morning Recruiting Report after this weekend
is over.
