North Augusta WR Gets Another Offer

North Augusta (SC) wide receiver Marcus Thurmond, named as the tenth ranked
prospect in the Midlands area by SCVarsity.com, has been gaining attention from several

schools since the onset of Spring. Now, the 6-1, 175lbs speedster has gotten another offer
on the table.
Middle Tennessee State has officially offered the Yellow Jacket wide receiver.
"They had been trying to get in a touch with me for a while, but they couldn't
because I had changed my cell phone number," Thurmond said. "I decided to check
in and call (MTSU offensive coordinator) G.A. Mangus, and he said they had an offer
waiting for me."
Thurmond, who is considered the state's fastest player after going undefeated in the
800 meters for the year and winning the Class AAAA championship, also has an offer from
Maryland and has been told he is a scholarship candidate by at least a dozen other
schools.
"MTSU said I might be the fastest guy they've seen on film this year and they want
a weapon like that on their offense," Thurmond said. "I like them because they
are close to home, and because I think they are a program on the rise."
Thurmond said he has been told he is a scholarship candidate by South Carolina,
Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky and Florida State, among others, and plans to
attend at least 10 camps this summer. He said South Carolina coaches told him they wanted
to see him match up against Summerville All-American WR A.J. Green last Saturday at USC
passing camp but he couldn't make it.
"I had to take the SAT in the morning, and by the time my ride came by to take me
to Columbia, my coaches called me and told me it was raining and they were ending
early," Thurmond said. "That was very disappointing because I was looking
forward to being on the same field with A.J., who I talked to a little at a few UGA games
last year and is a great guy."
Thurmond said his confidence is riding high after the dominating track season and said
he has gained about 10 pounds of muscle during offseason workouts. He scored eight
touchdowns in four games in passing league last Thursday at Orangeburg-Wilkinson.
"What I am really proud of the most, even more than track, are my grades,"
Thurmond said. "I took the toughest classes in my life and made some of the best
grades in my life. I really needed them to put myself in the best shape academically. My
mom loves all the schools that are recruiting me, but she wants people like Vanderbilt and
Wake Forest to consider me, too."
