coach Brian Lane and are absolutely loaded this season. The Trojans got
the best of the Rebels last season but gone is Mason Rudolph and a host
of other talent to graduation. Back is Mr. Excitement, Dupree Hart at
wide receiver, but this could be a rough start for the defending 4A0DII
Champion Trojans. (photo:

GAFFNEY AT UNION COUNTY: The Indians are in a tough spot; this team is
not as strong as Gaffney teams in the past; they need vast improvement
at the quarterback position on offense and will need young players to
step up in most spots. They are very talented at the defensive line
position, which may be the strength of their team. This is a huge game
for the Indians because first glance looks like a 5-6 or 6-5 year at
best; this game with Union County is cruicial if the Indians are going
to end up over .500 on the season.

an upstate/Lakelands team against a powerhouse Midlands oppoent. The
two 4A powers will battle at River Bluff High School on Friday night at
7:00 PM; The Foxes are defending state 4A-DI champions and will take on
an Eagle team who may be the strongest they've been in several years
under new head coach Dan Pippen.

RIVER BLUFF AT WESTWOOD: The Gators of River Bluff will enter their
first year of varsity competition and do so in the Class 4A. They've
looked good at times in preseason, with a strong offensive skills unit
led by quarterback Brandon Tillman. They will face a Westwood Red Hawk
team who also move up to 4A this season. The Red Hawks will present a
challenge to the Gators in the form of speed and skills, led by
All-Midlands wide receiver Adonis Lee.

hspace="2" vspace="2">SUMMERVILLE AT PROVIDENCE (Charlotte, NC): The
Greenwave returns solid talent to their line up with experience at
quarterback behind a strong offensive line anchored by the state's top
lineman, Zach Bailey. They also have an agressive defensive unit led by
end/linebacker Kuwaun Cox. Providence returns 16 starters from last
years 8-win team, including their quarterback.
STROM THURMOND AT AIKEN: The Rebels of Strom Thurmond are loaded and
will take one of the top units in the Class 2A to an improving Aiken
team, who just moved down to the Class 3A. The Hornets have speed at
quarterback and running back but are searching for their personality on
defense after graduating two big-impact players. The Rebels bring one
of the top running backs from the 2016 class to the match up. This will
be a great gauge for each team.

hspace="2" vspace="2">FORT DORCHESTER AT SOUTH FLORENCE: The Patriots
of Ft. Dorchester are loaded on the defensive side of the football and
will need to be when they face the Bruins this week. The Bruins went
unscathed in regular season last year and return virtually everyone.
Quarterback Nick Jones returns for his third year as a starter at the
helm and has as surrounding cast of talent that make other 4A teams
envious.
GEORGETOWN AT CONWAY: The Bulldogs of Georgetown are looking to improve
from last season but will have to have some young talent step up and
fill voids. Conway has struggled in recent seasons and will be looking
for creative ways to get the ball into the hands of one of the area's
top athletess, wide receiver Bryan Edwards.
